An indispensable step in sample preparation for materialographic analysis is mounting. In most cases, such process is necessary in order to automatically prepare samples on modern metallographic grinding and polishing machines and to polish small, fragile or surface-coated samples. Up to now, the classic techniques used in our laboratories involved the use of thermosetting or thermoplastic resins and a hot mounting press to support curing. Alternatively, bi- or tri-component acrylic or epoxy resins that cure thanks to a hardener material could be used. Today, alongside the classic methods of hot and cold mounting, we can mount using a resin that cures when exposed to UV light.
During the webinar offered by QATM, we will take an in-depth look at all methods of mounting, focusing on this new and innovative technique and exploring areas of application. Some application examples will also be shown during the online event.
